Jack wrote Funerals as a poem in high school shortly after the passing of his uncle's mother, who wasn't a blood relative. She wasn't the most highly regarded, not even by her children, some of which didn't even attend her funeral. This was also following the deaths of two kids at his high school in an auto accident. The poem examines the difference between the death of an elderly woman, who lived a full life and who's passing while sad wasn't a tragedy, and the deaths of two young kids whose lives were tragically cut short.
